"The Georges Sakakini By François Geoffroy Roux 1811-1882"
Very beautiful watercolor on paper measuring 42cm x 58cm plus wooden frame 61cm x 76cm Signed lower right Fcois ROUX, located Marseille, dated 1876 It represents a merchant sailing ship, on a somewhat rough sea, All sails out except one, deploying a French flag, with the pennant annotated Georges SAKAKINI and another MS a sailing ship on its right and another on its left Son of the painter and hydrographer Ange-Joseph Antoine Roux (1765-1835), he mainly painted representations of ships (including the aviso Le Renard). He was appointed official painter of the Navy on October 19, 1875. He is the last of the painters of "ship portraits" of the Roux family. He was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1880 for "exceptional services rendered to naval architecture by the reproduction of all types of warships of the French Navy." This watercolor has yellowed significantly, I know that specialists can clean it but I don't know of any, otherwise in good condition. It no longer has its glass, which will facilitate transport, which is free for France and Internationally.
