Born in Lunéville, Paul-Émile Colin is a painter, engraver and illustrator. In this small original study, he uses the reliefs of the paper to form the contours and features of a king's face, which he enhances with a few bright red, yellow and blue strokes. In the lower right part of the drawing, the head of his mount is sketched using a few strokes of watercolor in more sober colors.
