"Orthodox Blessing Cross Of Mount Athos - 18th Century "

Elegant gilded metal cross mounted on a slender and ornate base. The center and arms of the cross are openwork and contain several compartments containing fragments of three elements: incense, resin and beeswax. They are decorated with biblical scenes. The whole is decorated with colored stones, including red, green and purple cabochons.
The elaborate decoration, the use of gilded metal and the use of semi-precious stones, are characteristic of Greek crosses.
Probably a work from the end of the 17th or the beginning of the 18th century.
Dimensions of 19 cm by 8 cm.
