Edmond De Schampheleer was a Belgian realist landscape painter, born in Brussels in 1824 and died in Molenbeek Saint-Jean in 1899. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp with Eugène de Block. He completed his training in Italy and then in Germany where he attracted the favor of King Louis I of Bavaria in Munich. His realism is also based on the principles of the French painters of the Barbizon school.
