Brizard Sulpice (1733-1796) Seat Carpenter, Mastery Obtained on February 13, 1762: This seat carpenter distinguished himself as a representative of the Louis XV, Transition and Louis XVI styles. Brizard's work is characterized by a few seats from the Louis XV and Transition periods. However, it is in the Louis XVI style that he asserts his originality and finds the full blossoming of his talent. His models are of beautiful proportions, finely sculpted and often executed with great refinement. Among these classic seats, we sometimes detect more original particularities. His sofas and bergères are thus provided with a front belt that is not rounded, as is customary, but concave. His works are also distinguished by their armrest consoles and their feet with often very tight spiral grooves. Finally, we note the Brizard stamp on several small Louis XVI wall consoles in finely carved and openwork wood. Work from the Louis XVI period, 18th century, around 1780.
