Therefore the original regulation sabres of the 1st and 2nd companies of musketeers are extremely rare (and expensive), particularly the model of the black musketeers. Here, we are in the presence of a sabre whose blade and guard are entirely in accordance with the original model, while the cap and the fuse would rather correspond to the model of the line cavalry sabre of 1822, but obviously silvered, to harmonize with the guard. The sheet steel scabbard is also a cavalry sabre scabbard, perfectly adjusted to the blade however. These elements therefore confirm that it is a private manufacture after the Restoration, probably 2nd half of the 19th century.
BLADE: It is straight, with double hollow side on each side, and flat back. It is without decoration and most likely comes from Solingen. Length of the blade = 92.3 cm, width near the guard = 3 cm
GUARD: It is silvered, and has a main branch and two secondary branches which join the shell. The center of the large shell is occupied by the cross of the musketeers on a bed of flames, surrounded by the rays of glory, in a circle. The guard plate ends with a large palmette evoking the fleur-de-lys of the model in a stylized way, and obviously does not have the punches, nor the marking "Versailles" on the back, since it is a private manufacture. CAP: this is the cap of the 1822 model of line cavalry, silver.
GRIP : it is covered with sheepskin and a twisted brass filigree, silver which also corresponds to the 1822 type line cavalry handle.
SCABBARD : It is made of strong steel sheet, with symmetrical dart. One of the bracelets is serialized. It is a scabbard for a line cavalry sabre.
Although this sabre is a private manufacture freely inspired by the beautiful and very rare model of the black musketeers of 1814, it looks good and allows you to treat yourself at a reasonable price
