A young farmer watches over her poultry from the top of a staircase.
A lot of poetry and charm emerges from this work annotated on the back of the frame: BOULARD
This is most likely Auguste Boulard
Biography:
''Auguste Boulard (1825 -1897) born in Paris, died in L'Isle Adam, was a student of J Dupré and L Cogniet but left for Antwerp in 1858 where he studied the great Flemish masters
Back in Paris, he was influenced by his friends Daumier, Dupré and Millet For a long time he sent genre subjects, rustic scenes and engravings to the Salon in which he participated for the first time in 1847
Frequenting the Hôtel de Lauzun, he became friends with many painters, in particular Delacroix, Daubigny and Dechaume.
He was then a leader in the small circle of artists of the time. But closer to a conception of a rough and simple life than to the Parisian agitation, he retired to the countryside and went there to draw the portrait of the life of the peasants and fishermen of the time with the sincerity of a man deeply attached to the land and to the working classes.
