This painting by Alessandro Balduino signed at lower right depicts a dynamic scene of horsemen moving through open countryside. The horsemen wear traditional clothing, with wide-brimmed hats, and their figures contrast with the verdant landscape.
The right side of the painting is dominated by nature: a wooded area with trees and lush vegetation overlooking a stream. The water reflects the surrounding greenery and creates a tranquil atmosphere that contrasts with the energy of the horsemen. The soft, subdued light from the sky contributes to a calm and balanced atmosphere.
Balduino demonstrates an attention to naturalistic detail and a sense of depth, highlighting the contrast between the human and natural elements.
Measures: 53 x 71 / Canvas 27 x 45 cm.
On the reverse side Label Villa Ducale di Stresa (Lake Maggiore).
Balduino Alessandro, a pupil of E. Gamba at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, began with works on literary subjects presented in 1869 at the Promotrice in Turin (Ulrico and Lida) and in Milan (Renzo and Dr. Azzeccagarbugli). In the 1870s and 1880s he participated continuously in exhibitions in Turin, Genoa and Milan, presenting, in addition to landscapes, genre paintings (Colta in flagrante!, exhibited in Genoa in 1879; Come viaggiavano i nostri nonni, exhibited in Milan in 1882). He was also an etcher and a good ceramist.
