There are different types of damaru, hourglass-shaped tambourine. Here, the sound boxes are formed by two skull caps assembled at the top and covered with skins. Moreover, it is sometimes called "skull drum" (thod-dar). The skins are often painted blue or green and can be decorated with different symbolic motifs such as mantras. The traces on these skins testify to the use that has been made of them. This authentic object comes from a great collector.
