Large and superb porcelain basin or cache-pot from Japan with Imari decoration from the end of the 19th century. Its circular shape has grooves called melon ribs. Its decoration, of great finesse, depicts characters in reserve but also carp and squirrels on a plant background. Japan, 1880s/1900s.
Good general condition except for some very slight wear in the decoration, normal for its age.
No shock, cracks or restoration.
Very generous proportions: Total diameter 37 cm. Height 23 cm (see the small lighter as a scale indicator in the last photograph).
