"Miniature Gentleman's Velvet Suit And Breeches - France Circa 1770"
Circa 1770 France French gentleman's suit and breeches in miniature velvet dating from the end of the Louis XV period. Elaborate chased velvet called Miniature with fine stripes forming geometric patterns in shades of pale green, green, pink and cream. Suit with small collar, including twenty-nine matching buttons and false buttonholes as a set (one button is missing in one of the tails of the back). Front fastening with hooks, cuffs and pockets with buttoned flaps. The breeches have a fly (which is unusual) and are complete with their matching buttons. Original pig pink silk twill lining (small stains and holes in the pink lining) and linen for the back. The breeches are fully lined with ecru linen. Original pieces without subsequent modification. The velvet is very solid, except under the armpits where it is stained and frayed, there is a discreet halo at the end of a petticoat panel, the only major defects to note.
