"Edouard Febvre (1885-1967) Cart On A Towpath. Paris, Montmartre, Gypsies, Utrillo"
Beautiful and large watercolor by Edouard Febvre representing a cart and characters on a towpath, around 1930/1940, signed lower right Size of the watercolor alone without frame 28.5x45.5cm This is therefore a very pretty watercolor on a charcoal drawing background by Edouard Febvre who paints here one of his favorite subjects, a lively scene with cart and characters along a towpath bordering a canal with barges, perhaps in the Parisian suburbs, Marne, Seine etc... Done I think around 1930/1940, Febvre uses one of his favorite techniques, watercolor, which he masters to perfection, he first executes a precise and powerful drawing in charcoal which he then very skillfully enhances in certain places with watercolor in shades of green, brown, red/orange... I no longer present Edouard Febvre, French painter, watercolourist, pastellist and engraver, born in 1885 and died in 1967, renowned for his scenes of Parisian life and its suburbs, markets, flea markets, canals etc... Passionate about the world of travellers, he delivered a work where caravans and gypsies wander, in an atmosphere and framing that restore misery and pride, gaiety and nostalgia. The Paris of the poor, the fortifications, the area, Montmartre also captivated him, and his canvases and drawings in a falsely naive mode give dignity and poetry to the harsh daily poverty. This watercolour is in very good condition, either delivered in an old frame with black patina for €180 or per sheet without a frame for €150, your choice. Work guaranteed authentic
