Raphael Arnal (1906-19663), Provencal expressionist artist, born in Languedoc, who will pass through the Beaux-Arts of Montpellier. He will exhibit in Montpellier, Avignon, Salon de Provence, Paris then for 14 years in Marseille, in the district of La Pintade, often represented in his work, and finally in Vence and Antibes during the last years of his life. He is a great friend of Max Jacob with whom he exchanges an important correspondence which will later be published by the magazine Massilia. Complex personality of modern art, his painting is marked by a strong expression and intense colors, but he is above all a magnificent draftsman with a sure and precise line as here in these inks on paper of great precision.
