Bissière began painting in 1903 and exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1910. He presented his first solo exhibition in 1921 at the Rosenberg Gallery. In 1952, he received the Grand Prix National des Arts. Famous for his pastels, oils, and tapestries, Bissière turned to stained glass work in 1958 and exhibited small panels from the "journal en images" a few years later and received a special mention of honor at the Venice Biennale in 1962.
