These protective fetishes, intended to secure homes, are among the most sought after in Africa. The Nkisi acts as a mediator between gods and men. In the 16th century, the Songyes migrated from the Shaba region to settle on the left bank of the Lualaba. Their society follows a patriarchal organization. Their history is deeply linked to that of the Luba, with whom they share common ancestors.
