"The Goddess Athena as a child". Bronze. Lost wax casting. Fluvial patina. Bronze green Signed Cloza "1929" on base. CLOZA Antonio (Udine, December 19, 1890 - Brescia, January 15, 1960). Sculptor. He studied at the Turin Academy and had Cesare Zocchi as a teacher. He then worked with Minerbi and Dazzi. He is an interpreter of 20th century art, he participates in many artistic and cultural debates of the period 1910-1930. Friend of D'Annunzio, he founded a newspaper in which he attacks the Italian futurists. The intervention of the political authorities forces him to put an end to the controversy. The great friendship that binds him to Minerbi influences his style which is defined as "quattrocento". Main works: *Bust of Senator Cavalletti Rondinini, last lay governor of Rome under the papal government (1926 at the Capitoline Museum - Rome). *Venus (1928 at the Museum of Modern Art - Rome). *Statue of Liberty (with G.Zanelli for Cuba 1928). *Statue of the shot putter (at the Stadio dei Marmi at the Foro Italico in Rome). *The 4 statues of the Hotel Ambasciatori in Rome. *Fountain of S.Severo di Puglia (for national competition). *Gazelle of the fountain of Rhodes. *Head of Christ, in memory of the massacre of the Dominicans (Mato Grosso, Brazil). Officer of the 1914-18 war, decorated with the bronze medal of Military Valor. and passionate motorcyclist. In July 1934 he suffered a serious accident in which he lost the use of his right arm and leg. Despite these serious mutilations suffered during his life, he began to work with his left hand again. He was encouraged by his former grandmaster Minerbi and was present at the inauguration of his last exhibition held in Brescia, organized in 1958.
