The box is round, in brown tortoiseshell. The body is concave, a typical shape of the end of the 18th century, after the Revolution, and of the First Empire.
The interior of the box is entirely lined with large gold rings and a thin plate on the bottom and in the lid.
A small gold "nail" also adorns the center of the lid.
The gold mount is hallmarked:
