A lovely circular framed reliquary from the 19th Century. We often find St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane Frances de Chantal paired together because they were coworkers, so the inclusion of St. M. M. Alacoque lends this relic distinction. St. Alacoque is noted for introducing adoration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is often depicted as a flaming heart.
The artisan of this relic tries to capture some of the devotion. The reliquary compartment is set in orange and gold paperolle and surrounded with nicely crafted gold lace paperolle in miniature and red yard. The play of oranges, golds, and reds renders the impression of flame and compassion. A well-conceived piece that pays a proper homage to these saints.
