"Carved Wooden Pieta. Seventeenth Century."
Beautiful Pieta in wood carved in the round in its old polychromy. Seventeenth century. The Virgin, seated, looks at the dead Christ resting on her right leg; Christ himself resting on his right knee, a rare position, his body often being represented lying down. The hanging arm was formerly restored in plaster and can be remade in wood. Comes from a chapel in the North of France.
