Very nice bronze bust with brown patina representing the Emperor Napoleon I depicted as Hermes. This bust was made after the model of the famous sculptor Denis-Antoine Chaudet (1763-1810). This model was made in 1807 at the request of the Emperor himself in order to serve as an official portrait, this version will be adapted from a first portrait made by Chaudet in 1802-1803, modifying it slightly and removing in particular the baldric and the double-collared coat. The bronze that we are offering is an edition from the Art workshops of Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) and bears the inscription F. Barbedienne.Fondeur. on the base on the left.
