  • Detailed Description:
This Pleyel Concert Grand Piano from the year 1893 is a true masterpiece, distinguished by hand-painted details in Berainesque style. The piano is adorned with intricate depictions of fairies, satyrs, nymphs, monkeys, mythological creatures, birds, and flowers, with the notable composers of the time integrated in Berainesque style. The hand-painted design was signed by the famous French poster artist G. Meunier.
The piano features numerous carved elements, including fish carvings on the side panels and a lion's head on the lid lock. The upper lid features a molded edge in a repeated leaf design. The case rests on an ornately carved French walnut frame, decorated with foliage and floral motifs. The piano stands on six cabriole legs with sway feet.
    Berainesque Style:
The Berainesque style, named after Jean I Berain, a key figure in the French court style under Louis XIV, is known for its arabesque and grotesque ornaments that combine fantastic iconography and exoticism. This style signified the transition from the heavy Baroque to a lighter, playful Rococo style. The architecture of the Pleyel piano follows the Berainesque style, with fragile architectural constructions that frame central statues of Pan or nymphs. Colorful figures such as animal tamers, dancers, and Commedia dell'Arte characters also adorn the case. Typical motifs include mythological creaturesbirdsflowers, and swags, as well as the integrated names of composers. Notably, the singeries (monkeys) became very popular during this time and are a hallmark of the Rococo.
    Georges Meunier:
French poster artist Georges Meunier (1869-1942) was known for his work in the late 19th century and shaped the golden age of French poster design. Meunier, who worked under Chéret, produced over 50 original posters for products and Parisian events that are now considered iconic. This collaboration with Pleyel highlights the artistic significance of this piano, bringing a historical French aesthetic to the design.
Pleyel – A Legacy of Success:
Ignace Pleyel, the founder of the company, was an Austrian pianist and composer who established his own piano factory in Paris in 1807. Pleyel became known for his top-quality pianos, which were played by famous musicians like Chopin. The company achieved international success in 1832 with the first public performance of Chopin in the Salons Pleyel.
