Large portrait of a theater actor, probably from the commedia dell'arte.
This is an important oil on canvas dating from the first half of the 18th century and depicting a man in theater costume, wearing a feathered hat, a large red cape over a white checked doublet edged with blue, and a book in his hands.
Perhaps he is also a writer of plays!
The face is quite round with a thin moustache and his gaze turned to the right, with a slight squint staring at the viewer.

A very jovial man, the painter was able to give a slightly caricatural and perhaps slightly humorous side to this portrait.
