Very large truncated pewter DINNER CARRIER, with quarter-round groove, moving lid with central grip and movable handle with cherub head attachments.
Hallmark of Jean-Pierre BOUVIER received around 1710 or of Jean-Philibert BOUVIER received around 1740: crowned hammer / IPB
The father and son having the same initials, it is prudent to date this object from the son's period of activity
Height at the throat: 17 cm.
CLAMECY (Burgundy), Mid-18th century

Very rare largest dimension of the Clamecyssoise production in very good condition.
The dinner carriers of this provenance are in their vast majority by Claude-François BOUVIER, active mid-19th century.
This large dimension is encountered here for the first time in almost 50 years...
This object was used by shepherds and field workers, day laborers, etc. There were several sizes, the number of which varies according to the production centers, from 4 to 6. The shapes of these dinner carriers are variable, they are truncated in Burgundy, pomiform in Ile-de-France, flared in Anjou, etc.; the attachments of the handles, depending on the region, represent cherubs' heads, rosettes, fleurons, human masks, etc. Among the BOUVIER in CLAMECY, we note small variations in the number of curls in the hair of the cherubs' heads
