In the 1840s-1850s, he worked for various manufacturers of pottery and earthenware. In 1858, the Deck brothers created their ceramic company and produced numerous shaped pieces. He exhibited his creations at various international exhibitions and salons and eventually became Director of the Manufacture de Sèvres in 1887. The turquoise blue, close to the color of the porcelain of the lamps, became his signature and is still called "Bleu Deck" today.
