Jules Noël is a French painter born in 1815, died in 1881. A pupil of Cherioux in Brest, he came to Paris, made his debut at the Salon of 1840 and continued to appear there until 1879. He obtained a third class medal in 1853. Jules Noël is an artist not without charm: his drawing is full of verve, his watercolors and paintings are of a spiritual execution. He was particularly successful in the representation of the Normandy coasts, and he places himself, in this genre, after Eugène Isabey. His familiar scenes of life in the city, in the countryside, at the sea, constitute a picturesque and lively testimony.
