The main characteristics of a pair of Louis XVI bedside tables are a straight line, simpler, sober and geometric, inspired by Greco-Roman classicism; the composure of the geometric shapes contrasted with the whimsical, complex volutes of Rococo
Simpler and more sober, but still refined in its minute details, the Louis XVI style is characterised by the geometric rigour of the ornamentation and the sharpness of the volumes of the furniture.
This walnut panelled and inlaid pair is from the late 18th century.
First of all we can notice an important structural and decorative elegance, the legs on the front and sides are all walnut panelled.
In the two central drawers, the decoration emphasises the subdivision, in a succession of rectangular frames with a continuous, undulating floral inlay on the inside.
The square structure of this piece of furniture is evident in the well-proportioned pyramid legs and the lighter-coloured pilasters.
