Amédée Lynen is a Belgian painter born in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode in 1852 and died there in 1938. Wikipedia biography [edit | edit code] He trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels where he was a student of Paul Lauters and Joseph Stallaert. He is primarily a cartoonist, illustrator and watercolorist. He also practiced engraving and posters. His style is full of picturesqueness. He is one of the founding members of the “l’Essor” circle and the “Pour l’Art” group. With Léon Dardenne, in 1892 he opened a cabaret in Brussels at 12 rue aux Choux called Le Diable au corps, where they staged shadow puppet shows and singers. In 1893, the duo launched an illustrated periodical in the name of the cabaret.
