This extraordinary old Bakthiar carpet from the second half of the 19th century, hand-knotted under the Kadjar dynasty, measures 137 cm wide by 203 cm long.
It is in very good condition for its age, both in terms of the pile and the edges.
It has very fresh colors, as well as an extraordinary decoration, rare for this type of piece.
## By far, the most beautiful Bakhtiar that I have had in my hands.
Design, color, wool ... the condition of this beautiful artifact of a now bygone manufacture is sublime.
This carpet comes from the region of Chahar Mahal (Shotour) in Iran, formerly Persia, slightly close to Ahvaz (see map).
It is a Bakthiar with a central medallion, with two large and large pendants in the shape of a halberd enclosed in another medallion with stairs, decorated with flowers on an ivory background.
They are called, justaposé medallions.
Four spandrels and fine borders in incredible blues, very different from the usual square or rectangular structures spread over the entire field.
The first medallion with a cut-out shape presents a large flower and large stylized leaves, placed on a wine-colored, flowery field.
The field is composed of an incredible stylized mille-fleurs placed like a checkerboard, colored and knotted with a very great application of symmetry.
Note the flowery work of the intense blue spandrels and the learned and complex border.
## This type of Bakhtiar carpet remains a style of so-called nomadic carpet, the change in wool color as well as the asymmetrical shape found on certain models, inclines one to think that these carpets remain a home production and not a workshop.
Our model, although showing slight general wear, is nonetheless a sublime artifact of 19th century Persian culture, under the Kadjar dynasty.
## The Kadjar or Kadjar dynasty: (Qājār, Qadjar, Qajar, Persian: قاجار) is a Turkmen dynasty that reigned over Iran from 1786 to 1925.
This carpet, in fact, is particularly neat in its decoration and presents a certain transition between the nomadic carpet and the city carpet.
The Bakhtiar are very resistant, knotted with very high quality wool from the mountains.
Our model will support the steps of an entire family for a long time.
Despite their name and unlike different types of carpets, the Bakthiar are not knotted by the members of the Bakthiar tribe, the Bakhtiaris, but by another population today sedentary.
The region of Chahar Mahal produces the Bakthiar carpet but also the lesser known Yalame, more recent in manufacture but with a very good reputation. Short fringes on one end and long on the other, edges in superb condition, shiny and clean velvet. Very slight incidents on a real rare collector's rug.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
