"17th Century Carved Walnut Chest "
Beautiful Louis XIII period carved walnut wedding chest. It has the usual ornamentation of wedding furniture so common in Provence and that we saw in the vestibules of the old private mansions of Aix and Avignon. Only the edges of the facade as well as the sides are decorated with a band of stylized leaves bordered on the inside by a molding. The pilasters are decorated with winged angel heads and stylized fruits and foliage. The sides are surrounded by a "feather" decoration, the interiors decorated with wrought iron pull handles. Very beautiful domed cornice with gadroons. The top has a beautiful decoration of stylized leaves on the perimeter. Our piece of furniture has lost its lock as is often the case and its interior box of which traces remain. It rests on loaf feet at the front. Small restorations of use and maintenance. Provence or Comtat Venaissin. Period 1st half of the 17th century.
