Object description :

"Crouching Nymph Suckling A Young Faun By Saladin"
This beautiful bronze representing a young faun suckled by a crouching nymph was made by the sculptor Alphonse Saladin and cast by Susse Frères. Born in Epinal in 1878 and died in 1956, Alphonse SALADIN was a renowned sculptor in the 1910s and 1920s, who collaborated for four years with Auguste Rodin, from whom he borrowed some of his themes.
He was awarded a medal of honor in 1909, a gold medal in 1910 and a silver medal in 1920. He was also curator of the Musée des Beaux-Arts du Havre from 1925 to 1951. His work includes war memorials as well as busts of Rodin and Houdon, notably visible at the Musée de Troyes. His unique career as an artist and curator led him to produce works of classical inspiration but endowed with an original power.
