"Gilded Wood Cartel, 18th Century, Louis XV, Rocaille, Gille l'Ainé Paris 1750, Clock"
Old cartel dating from the middle of the 18th century. Pretty model in gilded wood decorated with scrolls and foliage. Dial signed by the clockmaker Gille l'ainé in Paris. In good condition, missing wood to be noted Until 1765, the signature "Gille L'Aîné" was used by Pierre Ier François Gille (1690-1765), while his son Pierre II Gille (1723-1784) signed his dials "Gille L'Aîné Fils". After his accession to the mastery on November 18, 1746, as the son of a master, Pierre II Gille set up his workshop on rue Saint-Martin, rue Saint-Denis and rue aux Ours. At the beginning of his career he worked with his father, then ran his own workshop in the middle of the 18th century and immediately met with immense success among major collectors. On the death of his father in 1765, Pierre II Gille took back his signature, thus affixing the mark "Gille l'Aîné à Paris" to his pieces. Finally, let us note that in the 18th century, clocks bearing the signature "Gille L'aîné" were mentioned at the homes of the Marquis de Brunoy, Prince Charles of Lorraine, the powerful farmer-general Perrinet de Jars, the Duke of Gramont, the Prince of Condé and Auguste II of Saxony.
