Dimensions: 135 cm x 112 cm This famous 16th century motif from the Italian Renaissance, appeared in a Florentine velvet in the first version. It will also be produced during the 17th century in Italy and Spain, with tiny variations in the design, in the form of damask, brocatelle or velvet. Often available in fragments, it is however rare to collect it in such a large format. A shield seal with three towers in one corner indicates its provenance from the bottom of the Le Manach Manufacture in Tours, dispersed in an auction room in Paris, about ten years ago. It can be found in several museum collections around the world, including that of the Royal Ontario Museum.
