Artillery Match Holder Esponton

This esponton point, which is in fact an artillery match holder, looks great, with its considerable size, clearly larger than the match holders used by infantry non-commissioned officers in order to keep a fire reserve available for the arquebusiers gunners. Here, we must imagine the weapon mounted on a shaft, and equipped with a match lit  at both ends, carried by a non-commissioned officer moving in the middle of the din of the cannons and the acrid smoke.
If this object evokes the Italian battlefields of the Renaissance, Marignano, Pavia... Unfortunately, we must make an important nuance to this evocation, since it is a 19th century manufacture in the 16th century style, and not one of the very rar
The weapon is composed of a central part ending with a long quadrangular point from which two hooks detach. A little lower, two branches reminiscent of what can be found on an Italian "spetum" of the Renaissance end in stylized monster heads.
A large socket of large diameter completes the object.
The manufacture is in cast iron.
The weapon has a beautiful patina and would gain a lot from being presented on a shaft.
I chose to leave it as it is to facilitate the sending of the object.
