Portrait Of An Officer, End Of The 18th Century

Beautiful and interesting portrait of Richard HALY, officer of Irish origin, born in 1733 in BALLY HALY married to Anastasie Naveteur in 1764 with whom he had ten children. He then served in France in the Walsh-Serrant infantry regiment as captain. He wears the uniform in force from 1776 to 1791, and wears the medal of the Order of Saint Louis. Very refined detail, he holds in his left hand a snuffbox delicately painted with a marine scene. At the top left are his coat of arms. Our painting is also signed by an artist to be identified ("Lacaille" ou "Lacoille" ?). On its canvas and its original frame, it is presented in a gilded wooden frame also original and in its period gilding. Very good general condition. Just a few small touch-ups in the black background and on the upper left edge of the wig. Total dimensions: 71.5 X 60 cm, and 60.5 X 49.5 cm for the canvas alone.
