The website "sabresempire.com" presents an almost identical model (apart from the fact that it is not silver-plated) as an "officer's sabre of the scouts of the imperial guard", but I hesitate a little to follow this attribution, although the author says he refers to Aries who, after verification, does not seem to give the same information. So we will stick to the attribution "light cavalry officer's sabre 1st Empire"
BLADE: It is, as is most often the case, a Solingen blade, as evidenced by the small branch engraving on the back of the blade near the tang. It has a large hollow section on each side, and a counter-edge on the last 19 cm near the tip.
The first third of the blade is decorated in blue and gold, in very good condition on the inner side, and more worn on the outer side. At the heel, we find in a cartouche the mark of the manufacturer of the blade, but the presence of the earring prevents complete reading. The monogram ends with the letter "B", which could perhaps correspond to the end of "ICB" for Johann & Clemens Boegel. The blade shows signs of oxidation over its entire surface.
Blade length = 76.5 cm, width at the ricasso 2.9 cm, thickness at the ricasso = 8.3 mm
GUARD: it has a single branch in 3 parts, with a large central almond-shaped ear, on which we can see on the external face a worn representation of the goddess Athena/Minerva on a background of sword and flags.
CAP: with a short tail, top called "melon ribs". small engraved floral decoration.
GRIP : in checkered ebony.
SCABBARD: it is like all the rest of the silver-plated brass frame; smooth, with 2 suspension bracelets and ends with an asymmetrical dart.
On the external face we find an eagle welded between the 2 bracelets. This eagle is probably a later addition at the request of the owner, who wanted to show his attachment to the Empire.
