""the Marble Player" Bronze By Elie Raset"
The marble player, a sculpture by Elie Raset created in 1904, began its destiny after the Paris Salon, where it was acquired by the city of Valenciennes, in order to adorn the newly created Rhônelle garden. In 14/18, the bronze was melted by the Germans. After the war, the original plaster was used for a new cast, which was itself remelted during the 2nd World War. The new cast from Ets Wauthier de Marly still appears in the Rhônelle garden. This is a reduction of the original work, with the founder's mark Gruet, active from 1874, having worked for Auguste Rodin.
