"Important Bavent Pottery Goose In Earthenware End Of The 19th Century Beginning Of The 20th Century"
Large goose on a mound in polychrome glazed terracotta, made by the Poterie du Mesnil de Bavent in Normandy, dating from the end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century in very good condition, with old restorations. Height 72 cm, length 87 cm, width at the base 29 cm. The poterie du Mesnil de Bavent is a Norman pottery located between Caen and Cabourg, in Bavent (Calvados). The specialty of this company, created in 1842 as La Tuilerie Normande, is the finial, a very common roof decoration in Normandy. It works among other things on the renovation of Historic Monuments, and in particular Norman castles and manors, or villas in Deauville, Houlgate or elsewhere. But the manufacturing is also geared towards other roof decorations, earthenware animals, tableware and garden decoration. The Mesnil de Bavent pottery has been labeled a Living Heritage Company since 2007 and its know-how has been included in the Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in France since 2008.
