"Gino Gregori (1906-1973) Oil On Canvas - 61 X 46 Cm"
Very interesting oil on canvas by the Italian painter Gino Gregori (from his studio sale, about ten years ago). Signed on the back "Gino Gregori". 61x46 cm (12P). Good condition, a small deformation of the canvas in the middle on the left (see photo). Gino Gregori's life before 1943 remains little known. He worked as a diplomat at the Italian embassy in Zagreb at least since 1935. In 1943 he was arrested and deported to Mauthausen probably for making false papers for the Jews3. He had already tried his hand at painting, but nothing remains, because everything was confiscated during his arrest. He would not return to Milan, his hometown, until the end of the war in 1945. On his return to Italy, he was offered the chance to go to the Italian embassy in Paris. This offer was perfect for Gregori who wanted to go to the capital of the arts3. In 1946, he lived in France in Paris and set up his studio in Montparnasse and established links with Braque, Picasso and Jacques Villon, then beginning an abstract cubist period and neo-realism and joining the Puteaux group with André Lhote, Camille Bryen Large Parisian galleries will then represent him such as Hoche and Bernheim. His works can be found in many museums and exhibitions around the world. In 1969, Gino donated a sketchbook to the Army Museum Gino Gregori considered an important Italian artist of the 20th century, in the lineage of Severini and Alberto Magnelli died in Paris in 1973 and is buried in the Montparnasse cemetery.
