Léon Mouradoff (1893-1980) Original Plaster - Workshop Proof Bust of a Young Girl - Signed and Dated 1935 Very good condition, note a small accident on the base at the bottom right Height with base: 51 cm Armenian painter and sculptor, he was born in Tiflis in 1893, and died in Annecy in 1980. Refugee in France in 1923, he collaborated on the decoration of the temple of Angkor of the Universal Exhibition of 1925, followed the courses of Bourdelle and Despiaux. Prizewinner of the Salon in 1928, he exhibited in 1932 a group "The Rape", the original of which is today in the Annecy museum. He will later make the bust of Monsignor Cesbron, archbishop of the city. Invited in 1948 to paint the portrait of King Fouad I in Egypt, he acquired a great reputation throughout the Middle East. In 1965, he became a professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Annecy, his adopted city. An excellent monumental sculptor, he is the author of the equestrian statue of General Andranik in the Père Lachaise cemetery and the memorial to the Melkonian brothers in Nicosia, Cyprus.
