"Large Berber Shawl Or Blanket In Hand-woven Sheep's Wool - Southern Tunisia Circa 1950-60"
Circa 1950-1960 South Tunisia Very long and large Berber shawl that can be used as a plaid or bed cover. Brown sheep wool, entirely woven on a hand loom on the edge of the desert. We can see a cream cotton weft and vegetable tips (corn?), the rustic wool warp is brown, with chestnut color variations. Piece collected in Matmatah. Long knotted fringes in cream wool on two sides highlighted with fine fluted cream stripes. No defects to note apart from a few missing fringes, no holes and clean. Ideal for a cocoon winter to use as a sofa throw or blanket for the bed. Beautiful condition. Dimensions: 340 cm long by 131 cm wide.
