Pair of Venetian Views
Oil on canvas
Signed A. Grossi
Late 19th century
Original carved and gilded frames
Canvas cm. 25 x 18

Excellent condition

These two very fine Venetian views, executed in oil on canvas following in an impeccable manner the style and pictorial technique of Giacomo Guardi, are autographed works by Aldo Grossi.
Only two paintings signed by this excellent artist are known to have belonged to the collection of Princess Maria Gabriella of Savoy, recently sold at a Swiss auction, practically identical to these and with the same frames, but depicting different views.

The extraordinary similarity with the authentic works of the Great Master and the lack of other jewels similar to these on the antique market, opens the way to numerous hypotheses on the dissemination of his works. In fact, considering the qualitative level of his few known works, his production can probably be in circulation with other generalities.
What remains certain, in addition to their rarity, is the descriptive perfection of these two small essays of skill, where monuments, characters and boats are executed with a pictorial ability that is difficult to find in similar works.
Finally, we point out the excellent conditions of the canvases and the original frames, typically Venetian.
