[MONTALVO (Garci Rodriguez de)] - Thrésor of all the books of Amadis de Gaule, containing the Harangues, Epistles, Concions, Missive Letters, Requests, Responses, Replies, Sentences, Cartels, Complaints, & other more excellent things: very useful for instructing the French Nobility in eloquence, grace, virtue & generosity. Lyon, Chez Pierre Rigaud, 1605; in-12, 568 pp. + table + 684 pages + table, full calf binding of the time, decorated spine with 4 ribs, marbled edges, slightly damaged headcaps. Good condition. Amadis de Gaule is a Spanish chivalric novel published by Garci Rodríguez in 1508 in Saragossa. It is a new version of a chivalric novel that greatly inspired Cervantes for his Don Quixote. Montalvo's work was adapted into French by Nicolas Herberay des Essarts, whose translation was first published by Denis Janot, Vincent Sertenas and Jehan Longis in 1540 in Paris.
