Antique painted wooden frame Born in Nancy in 1893, André Kauffer came from a dynasty of Lorraine goldsmiths. His father, André Kauffer (1867-1937), was one of the members of the steering committee of the École de Nancy association when it was founded in 1901 by Émile Gallé. Introduced to art from a young age, he trained at the Nancy School of Fine Arts. After devoting himself to goldsmithing for a while, he devoted himself fully to painting after the First World War.
From 1923, André Kauffer was a member of the Société centrale d'horticulture de Nancy. He also participated, in the early 1930s, in the exhibitions of the Lorraine Society of Friends of the Arts.
André Kauffer is a landscape painter that he mostly creates with a knife on wooden panels. His favorite sites are the Lorraine region, the Alps, Brittany, Spain and the South of Italy.
The oil on canvas that we are presenting, done in a post-impressionist style, is located on the back at “Quiberon” and can be compared to other views of the Pointe du Raz.
