"Franche-comté Fireplace Plate With Burgundy Crowned Lighter, 17th Century (73x73 Cm)"
Fireplace plate from Franche-Comté, from the 17th century in perfect condition, decorated in its center with two knotted sticks in saltire carrying in the heart a crowned lighter of Burgundy, to which is attached the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece and on either side two small lighters, for the attachment that the County has always shown to Burgundy; a cross of Saint Andrew, turned or baluster-shaped, ancient symbol of the protection of the house; all between two columns, plural meanings as for the coat of arms of the city of Besançon, evoke the ancient columns which still stood at the end of the 15th century at the top of the site of its citadel, near the Roman road coming from Geneva, and can also be a reference to the columns of Hercules, one of the emblems of Charles Quint. This plate was found in Morey Saint Denis in Côte d'Or. Its weight is 87 kg. You can visit our site: www.claudeaugustin.com
