"Fireplace Plaque Dated 1683 With The Coat Of Arms Of Jean Fyot De La Marche, 17th Century (95x88 Cm)"
Fireplace plate dated 1683, from the 17th century, with the coat of arms of Jean Fyot de La Marche (1626-1674), president of the parliament of Burgundy from 1666 until his death. His son Philibert (1662-1723), was also president of the parliament of Burgundy from 1705, keeper of the seals at the parliament of Dijon from 1684 to 1718. Mr J. Roy-Chevrier describes with precision a perfectly identical plaque and of the same dimensions, dated 1680, coming from the castle of La Marche, in Villegaudin in Saône et Loire, rebuilt into a luxurious residence from 1680 to 1682 by the abbot Claude Fyot (1630-1721), brother of Jean, chaplain of the king, commendatory abbot of Saint Etienne de Dijon and honorary advisor to the parliament of Burgundy. The castle was ravaged by a fire in 1861. The comparison of these two plaques leaves no doubt by the particularity of the unit the 0 as the 3, smaller, as reported, probably following the year of order. This plaque features a shield placed on an ermine cloak, stamped with a grilled helmet tared from the front, topped with a mortarboard and decorated with large lambrequins. Coat of arms: Quartered 1 and 4 azure with a gold chevron, accompanied by three lozenges of the same, which is Fyot, 2 and 3 sable with three gold bands which is La Marche. Crest: a half-length angel wearing a coat of arms with the shield and winged gold. Supporters: two lions. Motto: EN DOUBTANT JE M'ASSURE. This plaque was found in Pagney in the Jura. It should be noted that there is some alteration in the lower part. It weighs 178 kg.
