"Aringo Jagun Yoruba Ritual Ax, Cult Of Shango"
Ritual axe, called Aringo Jagun, of the thunder god (Shango) among the Yoruba of Nigeria. The twisted handle supports a kneeling female figure with a child on her back personifying the god Shango. The black iron axe is sealed in the wood above her head. Shango carries a child on her back. The style of sculpture characterizes a geographical origin from the Ekiti region. The object has a beautiful patina of use and a good age dating back to the first half of the 20th century. There is no restoration.
