Object description :

"Edouard Cremieux (1856-199) Cabin On The Corniche And The Anse Des Catalans In Marseille"
,Brushstrokes and energetic impastos that beautifully reflect the sea spray and movement of the sea for this work by the Provençal painter Edouard Crémieux.
The work in excellent condition is done in oil on wood panel, it is offered in a pretty frame from the 1930s which measures 33 cm by 41 cm and 26.5 cm by 35 cm for the panel alone.
It represents a Corniche edge at the level of the current Hotel Peron, in the background the relief of the Côte Bleue and in the center, the Butte des Catalans today transformed into the Cercle des Nageurs and the Phare de La Désirade built on the rocky point of the same name at the entrance to the Old Port of Marseille.
A pretty, bright and historical painting and a subject very appreciated by collectors of works by Provençal artists from the end of the 19th century.

Édouard Salomon Crémieux is the son of Saul Appolon Crémieux and Léontine Alphen. On August 16, 1894 he married Adrienne Sarah Ester Padova, known as Edith Crémieux. Edith Crémieux was born on January 30, 1870, in Marseille. They had three sons: Albert Ernest Moïse Crémieux, a doctor (1895-1963), Henri Gustave Élie Crémieux, an actor (1896-1980) and Gustave Saul Gabriel Crémieux (1903-1925). A student of Guindon, Fernand Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, then Tony Robert-Fleury, he returned to Marseille where he established himself as one of the masters of the Provençal school. He exhibited at the Salon de l'Association des Artistes Provençaux and at the Salon Rhodanien. He won numerous awards. The museums of Digne, Hyères, Marseille and Cassis have some of his paintings. In 1892, he received an honorable mention at the Salon des artistes français and then, in 1897, a 3rd class medal. A Jew, he was deported by Convoy No. 72, on April 29, 1944, from the Drancy Camp to Auschwitz and was murdered upon his arrival at the Auschwitz camp in May 1944, along with his wife, Adrienne Padova. His son, Albert Crémieux, deported by the same Convoy, survived the Shoah.
