"Thonet Jugendstil Parrot Coat Rack With 8 Branches, Early 20th Century"
Large Thonet coat rack in curved wood with 8 branches from the early 20th century. Designed by the German-Austrian cabinetmaker Michael Thonet (1796-1871), this model serves as a coat rack, hat rack, cane rack and umbrella stand all at once. Resting on 4 very stable feet, this coat rack with a central quadrilobed shaft is not afraid to support weight, all without the risk of tipping over. These very elegant and graphic curved shapes are a reflection of the Art Nouveau and Jugendstil eras. Note that a small ball is missing from the lower end of one of the branches and that another has been slightly remodeled (see detailed photos), but nothing that detracts from the general condition. This object with its iconic design exudes an incredibly decorative presence.
