"Georges Magadoux (1909-1983) 2 Rare Limoges Enamels C. 1950 + Bouche Frame. Jouhaud, Lurçat.."
2 rare enamels on copper by Georges Magadoux circa 1950/1960 representing an apothecary scene and an erotic scene, both signed with the artist's GM monogram at the bottom of the decorations, both framed in their period frames signed Bouche on the back. Size of the enamels alone without the frames: 16x11.5cm and 24x20cm frames included. These are in fact 2 rare enamels by Georges Magadoux in Limoges circa 1950, I say rare because these enamels were actually made by the artist himself, because we know that when success arrived, Georges Magadoux set up a workshop where he collaborated with several enamelers from the years 1965/1970, in particular during the creation of his famous "Magadoux blue" and most of these blue enamels were made by his workers and not by him. Here it is really Magadoux who created these 2 enamels, one with an erotic scene decoration with a princess and a magician, the other representing an animated scene at an apothecary with a couple. The artist uses multi-colored painted enamels where warm colors rub shoulders with cold colors such as oranges and blues, reds and greens .... I no longer present Georges Magadoux (1909-1983) famous painter, enameler and sculptor from Limoges, renowned for his work between 1945 and 1970, especially his enamels on copper, even if he also had a career as a lesser-known painter. Today he is one of the most recognized Limoges enamelers of the 20th century with Camille Fauré, Sarlandie, Marty, Jouhaud, Soubourou and Veisbrot. In 1943, after his training at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Limoges and his immersion in the artistic possibilities offered by the city in terms of porcelain and enamel creation, Georges Magadoux opened the Galerie Folklore to present Grommaire, Othon Friesz, Lhote, Valadon, Rouault, Delaunay, Lurcat… Since 1941, when he began in the art of painted and champlevé enamels, he has continued to perfect his art with mastery, rigor and openness, creating, in 1971, the Biennale Internationale de l'Email in Limoges. Today a street bears his name in the city of porcelain, several of his works are preserved in the museum of this same city and some of his creations are regularly sold at auctions with results reaching up to more than €7,000, a composition was even estimated between €15/20,000 at Tajan in 2011 (see Artprice.com) These 2 enamels are in good condition, entirely original, the screw fixings at the top and bottom of the 2 enamels are also original, as are the 2 gilded wooden frames signed Bouche. On request I could possibly mismatch these enamels by offering them €280 each or €490 for 2, your choice. Enamels guaranteed authentic
