As old tapestries are very often produced in much larger formats, it is very common from the 19th century to reduce them by cutting in order to be able to present them in more modest spaces. Generally, and this is also the case of the one that I am offering you, when cutting the fragment was given a new border and a new lining in order to consolidate it.
Aubusson tapestry is one of the most famous. It was created in Creuse around 1500. With over six centuries of production, many great painters provided models to the Aubusson tapestries (Oudry, Boucher, Watteau, Huet, etc.). The themes are numerous, ranging from 16th century verdure to today's abstract works, including religious or hunting scenes. Due to their exceptional quality, Aubusson tapestries can be seen in almost all the castles in France.
